Course Description:

Maybe change would not be hard if we knew where it was all going. This course is not about telling fortunes, but it is about seeing how people and ideas have changed. It is also about discovering which ideas have lasting value for you. Books, poems and songs are filled with stories about people discovering the world around them and the world inside them. Their authors shared their reflections about how people respond to changes and challenges. In this course, you will encounter the many faces of change. You will also be challenged to define and describe your own place in a changing world. The purpose of this course is to give you the tools to understand and express who you are and where you want to go. By the end of the course, your portfolio of writings will give you a descriptive self-portrait of a young adult growing up.

Participation Requirements:

Besides engaging students in challenging curriculum, FLVS guides students to reflect on their learning and to evaluate their progress through a variety of assessments. Assessments can be in the form of self-checks, practice lessons, multiple choice questions, writing assignments, projects, research papers, essays, oral assessments, and discussions. Instructors evaluate progress and provide interventions through the variety of assessments built into a course, as well as through contact with the student in other venues.
